What we do
We focus on the connection between everyday products, pollution, and water health.
Science & Research
We translate environmental and water science into clear, practical insights on how consumer products and chemicals affect water quality and aquatic ecosystems.
Education & Awareness
We create tools, workshops, and accessible content that help people understand the true impact of their choices on rivers, lakes, and oceans.
Community & Collaboration
We work with communities, researchers, and brands to pilot solutions that reduce pollution and move us toward safer, more transparent products.
About the Founder
Briana Zhaijun Lin
Founder & Executive DirectorBriana is a systems and policy scientist and entrepreneur building Bright Waters, a science-led initiative focused on reducing everyday chemical pollution at the source and accelerating water-safe product and system innovation. She works at the intersection of environmental science, applied R&D, and commercialization translating complex water-impact questions into clear, fundable programs and practical solutions.
She is particularly interested in how technology, transparent evidence, and smarter standards can deliver a “triple bottom line” of healthier waterways, reduced public risk, and sustainable economic growth. Her work is designed to support funders, partners, and communities through clearly defined projects such as ingredient and product impact screening frameworks, practical consumer facing interventions, and science outreach that improves decision making.
Briana’s experience spans marine wildlife necropsies and stranding investigations involving dolphins, seals, sharks, and whales, as well as contaminant research in top predator fish including heavy metals and parasites. She has also worked across conservation, habitat health, and veterinary and animal care settings. In parallel, she brings substantial people centered experience across health and social care, including supporting individuals with autism, Down syndrome, and learning disabilities, and working as a care aide for people living with chronic disease such as dementia, post cancer recovery, and gut health challenges. Her work is guided by a One Health lens that human, animal, and environmental health are deeply connected.
She holds an MSc in Marine Systems and Policies from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc in Biology from University of Toronto and York University, and has professional culinary training through Le Cordon Bleu, experience that reinforced her belief that what we put into the world and into our bodies matters.
